Larry Rigby grew up in a small town in Idaho until he was 17 and left for college, through which he supported himself by working as smoke jumper, mine worker, delivery driver, fry cook and janitor. His Ph.D. work in German lit (18th century lyric) was at The Johns Hopkins University. Unable to get a suitable academic post because of a waning job market, he worked temporarily as a morticians's assistant, security guard, substitute teacher, clothing salesman and market researcher all at the same time in order to provide for his budding family. He soon turned to business and over the years founded five successful biomedical companies.
